P & C

Beechwood Public School P&C

Our school is supported by an active parent community. The official parent body is the Parents' and Citizens' Association, which is also a forum for discussion. We have an extremely active and inclusive P&C at BPS which provides a number of essential services to the school and the community.

What the P&C Provides Every Year

In 2017 the P&C has again been able to provide many important resources and services to your school. Every year we provide:

  • $150 per class per term so that teachers can purchase resources specifically needed by their

    class

  • $200 each term to the library to purchase new books and resources
  • School Hats – we provide a new school hat to EVERY new student
  • An engraved Parker Pen to every Year 6 student for a graduation gift
  • A set of headphones for all classes for use in Technology
  • We sponsor the Citizenship Award at the Year 6 Graduation, support SASS Appreciation

Week and World Teacher's Day and numerous other activities within the school.

  • We recognise all of those students who represent the school by providing embroidery to all of

    the representative's school shirts.

  • The Canteen is run 100% by P&C volunteers, parents and carers, providing your child with regular healthy canteen options. The canteen also caters for and oversees numerous school events including Grandparent's Day, Celebration of Learning Assembly, Kindergarten Orientation and the Beechwood PS Athletics Carnival to name a few. The canteen committee maintains all of the canteen equipment and ensures that we continue to meet the standards

required by the Healthy Canteen Guidelines.

BOOSH (Beechwood Out of School Hours – after school child care service) is an integral part of the Beechwood School community and provides a much needed service to families at our school. This service employs three staff and is overseen by a 100% volunteer management committee who ensure that we meet all state and national child care requirements and accreditations and that we continue to operate at a high standard. We are excited that this year we have been able to offer music lessons through our After-School Care Program (BOOSH).

MEETINGS

The P&C would like to invite you to join our committee in 2018. Your role can be as large or as small as you are able to contribute. Meetings are held monthly in the library on a Tuesday night from 6pm. Meetings generally run for around 1 hour and dates are advertised in the Bulletin, taking into account school holidays we hold approximately 8 meetings per year.

What we achieved in 2017

Outdoor Learning Centre

The P&C's major initiative for 2017 is to complete the building of the Outdoor Learning Centre. The cement foundation was laid in mid-2016 with the roof being completed in January 2017. Throughout 2017 the brick wall, BBQ and kitchen benching has all been installed. The installation of power points, lighting and café blinds is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

Events

The P&C has held several events throughout 2018. These have included a Mother's Day Stall, A Father's Day Breakfast and an Emergency Services Day for all students. As well as running a weekly canteen we have catered for numerous school events including Grandparents day and the Athletics carnival. We are a regular contributor to the Pappinbarra Grown and Gathered Markets and the Beechwood Billycart Derby.

Our fundraising committee ran a very successful Trivia Night which has enabled us to  purchase much needed school resources.

I am very proud of the role our P&C played during last year's Fire Emergency in Pappinbarra. As well as being a collection point for donations our canteen coordinated with the Salvation Army to provide much needed meals to our emergency services as well as providing relief boxes to those BPS families that were directly affected by the fires.
