Welcome back everybody and I hope you had a safe and relaxing holiday.
Literacy Groups
Literacy groups will run from 10:15-11:00 Monday to Thursday. Any parents wanting to help are welcome.
Maths
Main areas to be covered are Whole Numbers, Counting, Early Arithmetic Strategies, Addition, Subtraction, Length, 2D Space and Data .
History
History will be taught in terms One and Two. "The Past in the Present" is the topic studied in Year One.
I will be sending home a family survey to help with this topic.
Writing
The emphasis will be on sentence structure, getting the children to edit their writing and create compound sentences.
Art
Children will be starting off the year creating book covers.
Science
Science will be taught by Miss Pollard. "Information" is the unit to be covered in Term One.
Library
Library is on Thursday with Mrs Arentsen.
Homework
An A4 sized book is required to complete homework. (80 pages)
Homework will be set at the beginning of each week and marked on Thursdays. Home Readers are available for your children as we encourage them to read to you each day to help improve literacy skills. A Spelling list needs to be learned ready for Friday testing. 1-3 sentences a week need to be written by the children into their homework books. The work will involve simple and compound sentences.
(See homework sheet in week 4 for more detail.) A sight word booklet is given to each child to learn at home. No homework is given in the last week of each Term.
